EDUCATIONAL RESIDENCIES

With decades of educational training and experience collectively, the members of Vianna Bergeron Brazilian Jazz are able to offer a wide range of engaging lectures and workshops to students and community members. A residency can range from a single lecture or workshop preceding or following a concert, to a multi-day dive into Brazilian music, improvisation, performance anxiety, and targeted instruction for individuals and ensembles.

This lecture/demonstration can be tailored to a general audience or to a classroom setting for high school, undergraduate, or graduate students.


The Brazilian Rhythm Section

A Hands-On Exploration of Brazilian Grooves

This workshop provides rhythm section players with insight into the workings of Brazilian grooves such as choro, samba, bossa nova, baião, and others. May be tailored to suit middle school through college and community ensembles.


Brazilian Music for Big Band

Repertoire and Techniques for Ensemble Directors and Performers

This lecture includes a discussion of available compositions and arrangements, as well as strategies for developing Brazilian grooves in an ensemble setting. It can be offered as a stand-alone lecture, or as a clinic for a live ensemble.


Choro Repertoire for Instrumentalists

Historical and Contemporary Performance Practice

Choro is a foundational genre in Brazilian popular music and jazz. This introduction explores context, repertoire, and performance techniques. May be tailored to suit beginning to advanced players.


Melodic Improvisation

Techniques Targeted for Beginning, Intermediate, or Advanced Players

This workshop explores practical approaches to improvising in a Tonal context, using Brazilian repertoire and practices as a starting point.


Managing Performance Anxiety

Techniques for Reducing Stress and Finding Joy in Performing

A certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), Rosi provides a hands-on clinic for musicians of all ages.


Instrumental Technical Development

Individual Lessons or Masterclasses

Hands-on instruction for students of all levels. This may be offered for saxophone, piano, bass, guitar, and/or drums.
